Jonas Vansteenkiste’s (°1984, Courtrai) artistic practice is defined by spaces. He builds spaces or creates situations that can best be described as mental spaces. He refers to them as ‘Denkraum’, a space created in our minds from which ideas can emerge amidst the chaos of our own perceptions, emotions, and thoughts. Vansteenkiste employs an extensive visual language, ranging from installations and sculptures to videos and drawings. He considers the medium ‘installation’ as a form of experience, actively involving the spectator and inviting them to enter the artwork and to connect with it both mentally and physically.
